Happy Birthday Mummy

Tomorrow is my mummy's birthday - well today, really. She is such an amazing woman and I wanted to take a few minutes to say thank you.

Thank you for making a lot of my clothes growing up, even though I was always so ungrateful.

Thank you for telling me not to smile like an idiot in photos, sorry I didn't listen.

Thank you for spoiling me with books and barbies and toys, I never went without.

Thank you for taking photos with me even though I know you hate it.

Thank you for raising me and the boys on your own in a state where you knew no one. You sacrificed so much so that we could have a better life.

Thank you for making me laugh, especially with your silly cat noises.

Thank you for teaching me manners and respect, even if I didn't always use them.

Thank you for loving me through my pain in the butt kid stage, my asshole tween stage, and my I know everything teenage stage.

Thank you for tucking me in every night and calling me possum.

Thank you for singing My Little Angel to me all the time, and dancing to it with me at my wedding.

Thank you for leaving me in the bookstore for 5 hours while you shopped because I refused to shop with you and you knew the bookstore owners and they loved having me there.

Thank you for standing around for 3 hours on Boxing Day for the LOTR premiere you really didn't want to see.

Thank you for teaching me to love Disney.

Thank you for always being the punching bag and forgiving me when I didn't deserve it.

Thank you for letting me wear your shoes and play with your makeup.

Thank you for teaching me how to iron my hair, and thank you for styling it so awesomely before I could.

Thank you for hating that I live overseas, thank you for missing me, thank you for making me feel guilty and wanting to be home - because I know there are a million people who would love a mother like you.

Thank you for being the best mum in the whole world so that I never even remembered I didn't have a dad.

Thank you for knowing me better than anyone else.. and still loving me.

  30. This is such a sweet sweet ode to mama :) I especially like the thanks for Disney love. I firmly believe that teaching a child is love Disney is like teaching a child to believe, in general and in herself, eternally. I may or may not be saying that because I still watch Disney :))
