eShakti review; second verse same as the first?

Anyone get that reference? If so, I love you.

Ahem.

Let's get the obvious out there asap, this is a sponsored post, however all opinions are 100% mine as you shall soon see.

Remember my first eShakti experience? That skirt is perfect and I was very happy with the whole transaction. I think eShakti is a great company, especially their tailored to you options. You can follow them and check out real women wearing their dresses and such on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. Not to mention a great way to catch sales and coupons, which I am all about.

When Jane at eShakti emailed me (me!) and asked if I would be interested in doing a review of one of their products, I jumped up and down like a little child. Considering I already had the skirt on the way, I thought I would try my luck at a dress. It took me awhile to find an item that hadn't already been reviewed (thus not available), and eventually settled on this little cutie.
here
It's called the mixed print elastic waist dress, and as soon as I saw it, I thought 'hmm, that's different, and cute and would be a perfect summer dress'. I pictured something above the knee, wearing flip flops or cute sandals while holidaying in Spain, or something.

Anywho, you can put in your own measurements, or select standard sizing, which I did because lazy. Then all I had to do was wait. Not very long, thankfully, and the dress was delivered via DHL (pretty sure my skirt was delivered by USPS or UPS but I can't remember. Definitely not DHL). I ran to the bathroom, as I always do, and tried it on immediately.

My first thought was womp womp. It was so long! Definitely not what I pictured. I was so bummed, shoved it in my handbag and didn't think about it again for a few days.

Finally, I chucked it back on, put some heels on and made myself look halfway okay for some photos.

I looked in the mirror, and I didn't hate the dress. hmm. It looks much better with heels, of course. I feel like little house on the prairie, and not sure where I will wear it. It doesn't fit in my holidaying picture anymore. Plus, it's kind of see through (I could see my underwear clear as day, hope you can't...).

But you tell me, what do you think?

It does have pockets though.

Worn with old Lipstick wedges, similar here.

I could probably shorten it an inch or two so it's above the knee.. but then there's the whole kind of see through thing, and I can't really fix that. I suppose I could wear a slip but I don't even own a slip.

Yeah I don't know where I stand on this. I can't see myself wearing it, though it is cuter than my first impression, it's not as cute as I thought it would be when I saw it online.

All this being said, will I shop at eShakti again? I'm almost certain I will (overstock holla). I still think they are a great company and their clothes are good quality. If I had bought this, I would be able to return it. I'm not unhappy with it, I'm just not over the moon like I was with my skirt. Thems the breaks, right?

Oh- but, but, BUT. Because you know how much I love a coupon code or a sale... Here is a coupon code 'porridges'- exclusively created for my readers to get 10% OFF when you shop at eShakti – valid from 08/13/2014 – 09/13/2014. You can't use it on overstock (womp womp) but you CAN use it along with the discount you get for new members.. yay! And don't forget about what the little bird said...

Oh, if you don't have a post scheduled for tomorrow, hint hint, the theme of this month's total social with Helene and Sarah is guilty pleasures. Fun :)

  1. So exciting! It would seem we got contacted around the same time, as I am waiting on one to come as well! The dress you chose does look really cute in the stock photo, I think maybe it looks just a little big on you. Did it feel loose? I agree with you that it would also look better shorter. It is an adorable style, though. I really love the little floral sleeves and keyhole details! I like the wedges you paired with it as well.

  2. hmmmmmmmmmm if you can't make something look fabulous then I think it's a pass.....I like your shortened version of it hahahhaha definitely cracked me up girl!

  3. I think it looks cute, but if you don't love it and won't wear it than I'd say send it back?

I think the short version is funny, too! xox

  4. love your honesty and cute faces!!

  5. I agree that if you don't love it you won't wear it...I think it's cute but also not my style. At most I would wear it to work just do I'm not wearing pants all the time....except I'd need a slip apparently haha. You look adorable.

  6. I think it looks cute, but confidence is key! The same thing happened with my eShakti dress. I went with the mid length one, when I really should have ordered the shorter version! Now it is just going to sit in my closet because it is summer material, but there is so much of it that it's too hot to wear. And the length and fullness of the skirt portion make super high heels seem necessary/

  7. Bummer that you don't love this one. My motto when I'm buying clothes is if I don't love it don't buy it. Thanks for the coupon code though!

  8. It is a little long but I think it still looks great on you! You could pair it with a belt and rock the midi-ish look! I definitely can't see your underwear but I know what you mean about the material being thin. Mine was too!

  10. See now that is a rocking title for a post haha... anyway on to the dress. You are cute and funny and I loved your take on this post .... but I am really not loving the dress... I like that is has pockets and maybe if it was shorter is might be able to pass. I would look horrendous in this at any length though. PS You crack me up.

  11. I think it's cute. My dress I got from them makes me feel like I'm down some back country roads with the cows. I love it! HA! You reminded me that I need to post my review.

  13. I mean you certainly make anything look good and usually when it has pockets i'm sold, but if you wont wear it then it's a pass!

    ReplyDelete
  14. You make it look good! If it was a bit shorter like you mentioned it will probably help things. But you can pull off anything!

  15. Shorten that dress and put some boots on with it!!! Yeeehawww! Also, Henry VIII??? If not, I'm a total nerd that is going to go into hiding now. ha!

  16. The dress looks great on you! I mean I'm a fan of the silhouette, but I have to say that the paisley-ish pattern is a bit old fashioned. This shop definitely sounds interesting though!

  17. Hmmm...it's not terrible, but I think there are wayyy cuter dresses from eShakti out there. Too bad you can't switch dresses.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I agree with you. It looks like a short dress in the stock photo! You wear it well though. I would look like a frumpy mess!

  19. Maybe because I'm old but I don't think its too long at all... I think with heels, its really classy looking. I think its a thumbs up for sure.
I got my dress in Friday & need to get some pics. Mine came DHL as well :)

  20. Hmmm... Herman's Hermits?

I don't love that dress and when mine came I felt too that it was much longer than I had hoped. Which is why I keep putting off my post. But you could pull it off with heels. Maybe for church?? lol... it seems a little conservative to me but seriously you can make anything look good!!!

  21. I think you're right, not as cute as the skirt and it is a weird length and I think the only reason I would like it shorter is to wear it with long boots for winter/fall. You're so cute with your sad face!!

  22. It looks cute in the photos- might be a good dress (with a slip) for a bridal or baby shower?

    ReplyDelete
  23. I love this dress on you but I totally see where you are coming from about the length! I noticed that on a lot of other bloggers on their reviews that's one of the reasons I adopted for a maxi haha! Mine is kind of thin too... But since the pattern is dark you can't see my undies haha! You still look super cute thoug! :)

  24. Hmm def see what you mean about the dress. Also my grandma might have a slip you could borrow..? hahah.

ALSO YES for your title being a reference to my all time favorite camp song

    ReplyDelete
  25. I got asked to review something from them too and had a hard time picking out anything because all the super cute stuff was picked already. Damnit! Haha! But I will say, the dress looks way cuter on you than on the website!!! I would think maybe for work? You could put a jean jacket over it and make it trendier ;) ;) that is my answer for everything.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I bet they'd switch dresses for you. I love the one I got ... I just need to write my review!

    ReplyDelete
  27. LOVE you for being so honest in your review! YOU are so cute but I think you could definitely find a more flattering dress. If you have to go get a custom-fit dress altered (and I know you selected the pre-set sizing but whatever), something's not right. I'd say return for an option you LOVE and makes you feel like a million bucks. No point wasting a day in a dress that makes you feel meh.

  28. Bummer it wasn't what you were hoping for based on the online picture. The see-through issue could be resolved with a slip but that can be a pain at time. I'd say pass if you are not loving it. The skirt you got before was great!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I was contacted by them like a month ago and have had the hardest time finding something that I like and is still available...your post convinced me to finally just pick something so hopefully I like it! Honestly I'm iffy about your dress but I think it looks way better on you than in the picture!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I've ordered from them before and they just have weird ideas of what knee-length is. I'm waiting on one to review too..I ordered the "mini" length option this time, so we'll see!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I was contacted by them, need to peruse the site.

It would be a no for me because of the see through. I don't have time for crap like that.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I think if it was shortened a couple inches it would look better! But I guess it's always nice to have a "little house on the prairie" dress on hand in case you ever need it?!? Haha I still think you look super cute, though!

    ReplyDelete
  33. You're adorable and a much better blogger than me, you've done 2 of these reviews and I have yet to do my 1! Ugh maybe I'll get around to the photos this week...maybe...but you're right this dress is no bueno in the flattering department. Minus the fact that you still look awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I am with you on the length. just does not make me say yay. but you are cute!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Yeah I'm kinda whomp whomp on this one friend! I definitely agree with you on the length but I have no patience for things I can see through. I mean don't they test these things? You look adorable though :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. I think it is cute! You pull it off. Love the wedges. XO

    ReplyDelete
  37. I don't get the reference but I'll pretend I do! That's a shame you didn't love the dress. I think it looks cute boho but ya, if it's see through there's no point. And where does one even go to buy a slip these days?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Hmmm... I can't decide how I feel. I love the print and I can definitely see why you fell for it via the online picture. I think it's cute, but maybe it would be a lot cuter if it was shorter. And the slip thing is definitely an issue. See-through dresses are a no-go. I almost think it would work without the flowerly trim on the skirt and sleeves?

    ReplyDelete
  39. a little bit louder and a whole lot worse... that's the right response for the song right??? haha I haaate when you get things and realize that they're see-thru-- no one wants to deal with a slip! Otherwise I like the dress and think it looks great on you! I totally know what you mean about the length not being quite right without wearing heels.

    ReplyDelete
  40. It's definitely cute, but I'm not 100% sold on it. I love all of your faces in your pics. You definitely pull it off though!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Bahahahahhahahahah... Pete was looking at this over my shoulder and said: "Give her a thumbs up and tell her she looks hot!" :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. You're so cute. I think the dress is cute, but yeah I'm not sure where I'd wear it either. I'd definitely hang onto it through the fall though; it could work for a conservative friend's baby or bridal shower or something! I have to write up my eShakti review now but I don't have a husband to take pictures out in real light for me and I feel so silly asking someone else to do it so my review post will have to be full of mirror selfies hahaha I hope that's okay with them

    ReplyDelete
  43. I think it looks really cute! Like you said, it could be shortened just a bit, but overall I think it's pretty nice! I love how you were so honest with your opinions! As far as it being see through, try getting a pair of the spandex shorts (they're kind of like volleyball shorts) & wearing them underneath- it's a good alternative to a slip!

  44. I do like the skirt a lot more! Haha I felt the same way when I recently received an Eshakti dress. Kinda Little House on the Prairie, till I put it on. It looks cute, but I agree - maybe shorter. They are having a B1G1 sale right now, it's really tempting to buy things.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I'm with you on the length...just a few inches would make a big difference! I still think it could be a cute work dress with some heels :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. Lol. Your expressions are classic! I say take it in to get tailored a little. If you hem the bottom it might take away from the print so another option would be to see if they can just tuck it in the waistband where the elastic is.
