I have spent 3 birthdays in America, and it makes me so sad when the weather is cold and dreary on 'my day', when for 24 years it was unbearably hot. But I'm a big girl, and I got over it.
Because whether I'm in Sydney or Kentucky, Summer still makes me happy and some things are the same all around the world.
Like...
The daylight lasting so much longer.
Flip flops (thongs) all day every day.

Outdoor parties.
A cool drink that hits the spot.

Always being outside. I feel so cooped up in Winter.
Sundresses. Easy peasy, looks dressed up, but feels like jammies.

Running in shorts and a tank top, layers I hate you!
Ice cream. Ok, who am I kidding I like this year round. But isn't it good when you have to eat it so fast otherwise it melts all over your hands?

Things I hate about Summer
Mosquitoes.
Christmas beetles. Obv, only at home.
AC everywhere. I have to take a cardigan with me everywhere I go. This is only applicable in America....
And of course, I hate when Summer ends.
I love that it gets so much lighter so much earlier in the morning! Summer really is the best!

It's always summer over here. We have two seasons. A wet one and a dry one and if you're not from here you wont't know the difference!! haha Oh but we have similar beetles at certain points in the year too. PS I'm not even a big ice cream eater but that pic of the ice cream has me absolutely drooling.
ReplyDeleteI also love summer! Being able to throw on shorts and a tshirt and walk out the door is awesome. And I agree about always having to bring a sweater everywhere- that gets old! But it's better than always having to wear a sweater outside.
ReplyDeleteHooray for summer! Here on Guam it's basically summer all year long so I live in slippers (flip flops), shorts, and sundresses.
ReplyDeleteLucky. My birthday is in November. So I never had a cool pool party for my birthday growing up. Which sucked.
ReplyDeleteBut my youngest had her birthday yesterday... so I guess I do get to have a pool party! WIN WIN!
Girl, I feel you about summer! I seriously can't handle winter which is why I live in FL now. I wouldn't move back up north for anything! There is nothing better than sundresses and flip flops! But I have to agree with you on the mosquitos... I have a ton of huge bites all over me from being out Saturday night :( Happy Monday!

In season fruit is the best, but I love the cold- tough decisions!!
ReplyDeleteYAY for Summer! I also have a summer birthday so it holds an extra special place in my heart as well. Everything is just better in the Summer there's no way around it! Thanks for linkin up girl :D
ReplyDeleteSuch a good list! I love not having to deal with bringing coats and scarves and things with you every time you want to go anywhere!
ReplyDeleteOh yes - summer is wonderful for all those reasons!! One of the worst things about winter is getting cabin fever because of the cold - blah!! Happy Monday!
ReplyDeleteI love summer but I really dread the miserable heat here in GA and sweating the minute I step out the door. I must admit I do love the cold weather too... wierd but I am from up north sooo I grew up with it!
ReplyDeleteI love summer too! Not so much Texas summers when it's over 100 & humid everyday but Minnesota summers!
ReplyDeleteI also love tans, sun dresses, maxi dresses and bright nail polish, barbecues and Summer drinks (hello sangria)!
ReplyDeleteSUMMER IS MY NUMBER ONE ALL TIME FAVORITE!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYay!!! I love summer and you are spot on with the reasons why Summer is so amazing! I love a good cookout! But ya Mosquitos suck!!

I'm not a fan of summer at all. I hate being hot lol
ReplyDeleteBut I do love BBQing and the smell of it and there is nothing better than being out in the sun running around and then it making you tired. It's weird, but to me is the best kind of tired.
And icecream! Yum!
i love summer too. it's so nice to be outside and not have to wear a million layers. and i looooove how much better fresh fruit is in the summer too. but also agree that the air conditioning can be a little much. i bring a cardigan with me everywhere in the summer too!
ReplyDeleteYes to all of this!! ... Well, except for the Christmas Beetles ;)
ReplyDeleteOh I love all of these things about summer too! Especially flip flops and seasonal fruit!
ReplyDeleteI definitely prefer summer. I hate being cold more than anything. Give me a nice sunny day any day =)
ReplyDeleterunning shorts & flip flops are my love language :)
ReplyDeleteLove this! I love summer too and all the things that you've mentioned. My pup ate my favorite flip-flop on a Saturday night *sad face*, now I need to look for a worthy replacement lol :D Oh, oh, oh! And AC at work, I can't stand it, it feels like winter all over again ahahah! Have a great day! xoxo Olena
ReplyDeleteGreat list! I love summer as well. But more so when I actually get to experience different seasons.
ReplyDeleteCrazy AC is also a hallmark of Singapore! Actually it wasn't so bad when I lived in Los Angeles, but in the South and in Chicago crazy summer AC was the norm. I thought for sure when I moved here that it wouldn't be the case- after all, it is summer year round here- but that being said, malls always pump the AC up SO hight here that I shiver after entering them…..
Ahhh so much summer awesome! Flip flops, longer days, iced drinks, ice cream, fruit, dresses!
ReplyDeleteI love the nice weather...I do not love the horrible hot humid weather that we get down here in the deep south starting towards the end of June and lasting though October. I have a few more good weeks left to really enjoy it lol.
Summer is my favorite absolutely... but those mosquitos omg theyre awful here in the South!
ReplyDeleteI bet that is so strange to go from celebrating in summer to then in winter. Time for some new birthday traditions!
ReplyDeleteExcellent choices . . . flip flops being summer favorites here too! And sitting on the deck to have my coffee . . . that makes me happy! And it's so strange to think about you being used to opposite seasons . . . it must be an odd adjustment for you. I went to Florida around Christmas one year and it seemed so weird with warm weather and palm trees.
ReplyDeleteFlip Flops all day every day...the beauty of summer :)
ReplyDeleteSummer & sundresses are my favorite! And this year especially after the horrendous winter we had! The other day someone made a complaint about the heat & I was like I swear on all things holy I will punch you in the throat.
ReplyDeleteI'm a February baby as well, except I've never experienced warmth on my birthday except for maybe a tanning bed session. Even then, questionable.I would give anything to be on a beach on my birthday.
so is the term Grilling out a Kentuckiana thing?! The BF who is from Indiana uses it all the time and I had never heard the term before him
ReplyDeleteA great collection of summer loves! I'm with you on the running in shorts and a tank top... I'm grateful for layers when I run in the winter, but I'd much prefer the single layer of cool clothing! And ice cream? Yes. All day.
ReplyDeleteMosquitoes might be my biggest hate for the summer, especially now I live very close to a swamp so it's hard to enjoy being outside without getting bitten like crazy. And the AC everywhere... again, I'm grateful for it on hot days, but if I'm in it for any length of time I get so freezing and feel like I have to carry a sweatshirt around with me, and that just seems silly!
Wait a minute, do people not use A/C in Australia?! Aaaah!!! But I do agree with you- it's frustrating in the summer when you want to wear your little sundress or shorts and a tank, but then you freeze your ass off anytime you go indoors. Why can't stores and businesses find a happy medium with the A/C???

I am such a summer girl. Do they not have AC in Aussie? It is so cold in my office I am always bringing a sweater. The smell of a BBQ is the best!
ReplyDeleteTotally have to have a sweater with me, even in summer, thanks to blasting AC (first world problems much hah?). At least you all don't have the nasty, drippy humidity like SC. I love KY in summer!
ReplyDeleteCouldn't agree more! I love everything about summer and warm weather!
ReplyDeletei'm a total summer girl. flip flops, summer dresses and beer/sangria! then i turn into a grumpy hermit when the winter comes :(

Ughhhhh what are those Christmas beetles???? I love Summer! Nothing like yoga pant/maxi dresses and flip flops the whole time right? Speaking of I really need a pedicure!!
ReplyDeleteI just love spending time outdoors and not freezing! Also, YES to fresh fruit!
ReplyDeleteYes & yes!!!! We have June bugs in our area, which I'm guessing might be similar to Christmas beetles. They're awful!
ReplyDeleteHaha I feel ya, no matter how hot it is outside I usually have a sweater or refuse to wear shorts because I'm going to freeze no matter what!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite things about summer too :) ugh I just love everything about it. I'm so happy it's so warm right now. Finally wearing a sundress today :)
ReplyDeleteLong days are SO much better! Definitely! And yes ice cream, cold drinks, and pool days are the best best best.
ReplyDeleteI could not have created the list better myself. And I am a summer baby too!! :) That must be why I am a summer gal all the way. Even with our high Alabama temps.
ReplyDeleteI love everything about summer, everything!! I'm a summer baby as well. I like that it is light until 8 or 9, grilling out, no jackets or boots, I could go on :)
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely a summer girl too! And summer ending is by far the least favorite part of it.
ReplyDeleteMy husband's birthday is in February too, and he could not agree with you more. Winter is a total bummer!
ReplyDeleteUgh me and I are enemies!! Growing up in Vegas, I just love the heat. Never experienced cold, snow, and actual winter until moving to Alaska. And I can't wait to get back to a warmer climate!!
ReplyDeleteYay for sundresses! I love not having to worry about driving in the snow anymore! haha
ReplyDeleteI'm a summer lover too. I thought maybe it was because I was born in June, but really, who doesn't love summer?
ReplyDeleteRead your post while I was at work - made me immediately want to run outside and enjoy summer! Well done!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with ALL of these! Especially that I have to take a damn cardigan every where too. And hell, I'm sitting here at work (working hard obviously) with a long sleeve sweater on because it's always so damn cold in the A/C! Yuck! :) My most favorite things about summer are the ice cream, dresses, and that it stays light out so much later! :)
ReplyDeleteOh summer with its sundresses and ice cream. I am one happy camper! Thanks for linking up :)
ReplyDeleteI just said "Holy crap it's almost 9:00pm and still light out!" Love, love, love everything about summer!
