Things I Learned This Derby Weekend

Warning: all of the photos. Scroll allllllllltheway down for the things I learned.

It was a freaking awesome day. Seriously. Couldn't have asked for more gorgeous weather, nothing crazy happened, only a few tears caused by drunkenness, nobody lost or broke anything like years passed, no one got too drunk... in our group, anyway.

First, we got up ridiculously early, got ready and ate a ton of breakfast to cushion the alcohol.

Then we drove over to my friends house, put the finishing touches on ourselves, including all of the made-by-my-bestie fascinators. And took an awesome bathroom selfie.

Then we went outside to take the traditional (and then some) photos.

For funsies, 2012, 2013 + 2014 with my bestie.

Now for the crazy photo dump. Have fun.

yes, we do this errytime we are together.

We actually went to the infield, which I heard was crazy and kinda trashy, but it was a pretty fab day. We ran into some other people and stole their seats, and hung around in front of the porta potties all day. Handy. But really, we were right in front of the track, watched the derby and it was pretty awesome sauce.

Horsies! The Derby.

Aaaand they're gone.

yep,4 of us illegally in the backseat.
The guests from Boston were fabulous, best first guests ever. I have met her a couple of times, but never her boyfriend. She grew up with my besties, and then moved away as a teenager but they all stayed in contact and then I just slid in and took her place a few years ago ;) But they both fit in like they always belong here, and it was sad to see them go, but we are going to visit in September.

Funny and crazily, none of us ate a thing the whole day - filled up on breakfast. We left at about 7pm and went straight to Taco Bell & Burger King for the most nutritional meal ever. It was well worth it.

Things I learned this weekend?

- Don't worry about a stain on your pretty dress at 8am. By 8pm, it's gonna look a lot worse.

- Don't have deep and meaningful conversations whilst very drunk. Or do, you might find out something you already knew.

- Don't walk off without telling anyone - ever, but especially at the freaking KY Derby.

- Don't bother trying to meet up with anyone, except by accident. You'll never find each other.

- The Australian, despite her protests, can get burned in KY and did. And, ow.

- Sunburn sucks.

- This did not happen to any of my friends or myself, but a note to anyone who goes anywhere, ever in life. If you get so drunk that you fall asleep on a hill, cover your shit up. Because, ew. Poor girls.

- You should probably never go 10 hours without eating.

- Mint Juleps really are disgusting.

- Lily's are faabbulous.

- Bud lights are better (and cheaper!)

- You cannot fit more than one person in a porta potty. Don't do it. Again, not from experience but from laughing at idiots attempting this.

- You can, however, climb the porta pottie and sit on top to watch the Derby. Note: I absolutely did not do this, though plenty of people did.

- If you put all of the collectors glasses in your lap and then someone opens the car door - hold on to the glasses, otherwise they will topple out of your lap and onto the ground and break errrrywhere. Bye bye glasses. One survived.

- You meet lots of random people at the Derby. Making up stories is fun. Hi, my name is Victoria from London, and this is Marguerite from France. Can we have your tickets?

- Taco Bell is the be all and end all of drunk food. Never eat it sober. Try to forget you ate it. Ew.

- Hair and makeup always looks better when someone else does it.

- After all the things I consumed this weekend, food and alcohol, I need a detox or something.

- Not everyone loves Pride & Prejudice as much as me? I can't accept this one and that no-one wanted to watch it yesterday and instead wanted to go see the sights (what sights?) of Louisville.

Happy Monday y'all - have a great week!

  39. Okay because I'm crazy and I analyzed your pics for you I have fully declared you are so gorgeous you can honestly be on any side! I will say the picture after your goofy picture when you are on the outside you killed that no smile/kinda bitchy/model face absolutely perfectly!!! I feel like I was there with you the whole day! I have also made a rule about not trying to have life conversations while drinking....they never end up working out well. Two people one porta potty???? Ugh that is awful! That taco bell ending looks epic and spilling glasses off your lap onto the ground....that would so be me! I want to come to a derby with you!!! Looks like a blast! Gorgeous pictures girl!!!!! p.s does your hubby take all your pics? ;-)
