Today I am linking up with Chelsea, Kait and Rebecca to share my favourite leg / lower body workout.
I told you here that I split my workouts into upper, lower + abs. So this is my 'lower body' workout, so it works out.. well. you get it.
I personally think you don't need a bunch of fancy workouts for the legs + booty. I have tried pretty much everything for the lower body, because that's the part of my body I struggle the most with.
And this is what I do: Squats. Lunges. Deadlifts.
Boom, done.
Squats are my favourite of all the exercises in the world. I feel so strong! I do 3 sets of 12 with 40-50 lbs depending on how weak I am feeling.

via Learn how to do a proper deadlift here. Seriously, you can really hurt yourself if you go all willy nilly about it. |
There are a million other leg / butt exercises, including ones that focus on smaller muscles, and they might work for you but I personally don't love them. When I actually do this workout, my legs are amazing. When I am lazy, not so much. But if you like the other exercises, you go on with your bad self.

And for the obvious - I am not a professional and you should always consult a doctor, personal trainer, someone smarter than me before you do anything, and you cannot blame me if something goes wrong or you hurt yourself. Feel free to blame me if you are the good happy sore the next day though :)

Loving the May Challenge Post, thanks for linking up! Loving your blog too, can't wait to check everything out...also your last post (over the weekend) was absolutely hilarious...loved it!
ReplyDeleteugh leg day. worst day for bros. which i am.... i can do upper body for dayyyyssss but leg day, yuck. i do it so i don't have chicken legs but i don't enjoy it. however, combined with trail running, i had the BEST leg definition...then trails froze over during winter, i was sort of blah about leg days and definition kinda went away. now that trails are back in progress (yay!) and i'm back at legs, COME AT ME BRO.

Love those exercises! I don't know what it's called, but I also love the one where you lay on the floor on your stomach and lift one leg at a time toward the ceiling (if that makes sense). Love the burn in my bum!
ReplyDeleteI do a lot of these same exercises and I split my workouts the same! Deadlifts used to kill my butt but now they don't as much any more. I think I must need to up the weight or something. Leg day was yesterday for me and my calves are feeling it today!

bahahahahaha first of all.....who knew spongebob has such amazing gams? Second of all this entire post all I can think of is guys who are like "today is chest day......today is tris and legs.....basically it's my leg day" ugh I use to date a guy like that and then I'd like grab his arm for something "Ummmm hello it was my arms day that hurt!!" Yeah that didn't last very long.....love your workouts girl keep them coming!
ReplyDeleteYay for squats and deadlifts and lunges! We speak the same Leg-uage.
ReplyDeleteOh leg day, soooo good but so hard. And the next day walking, woof!
ReplyDeleteGreat exercises lady, keep it up!
Love this post - I need to get better about working out my lower half/my whole body lol!

squats squats squats errrrvybody (in the tune of shots hahaha) Ok I'm a dork!
ReplyDeleteSquats and lunges are seriously the best!! Give you that bubble butt :)
ReplyDeleteGreat post and I totally agree! The basic, tried and true exercises are all you need. I hate going to the gym and if I can do a bajillion squats in front of the TV I guarantee you I'm going to see results!
ReplyDeleteSquats for SURE! Just doing squats alone always makes a huge difference for me when I stick with it. I was doing pretty good for a couple of weeks then I got lazy. Need to get back on it again!
ReplyDeleteSquats and lunges are always my go to!! But deadlifts are my absolute favorite!!! Works so many muscle groups! Love it!

Is it weird that I love leg days! Maybe it's because I can't lift a weight or do a push up to save my life, but give me some squats and lunges and I'm a happy camper. thanks for the workout!
ReplyDeleteI love squats too girl! I am not a fan of lunges, but it's mostly because no matter what I do I end up with really sore knees :( Stupid old lady knees...
ReplyDeleteI like your approach to working out. For the average person, a few simple things like this are all you need. Also, totally agreeing with you on running. Holy crap, I have calf muscles now where there was never a trace of muscle before! And HI ROCK-HARD QUADS I love it. Get it, girl
ReplyDeleteI like these exercises I really need to get some weights.
ReplyDeleteI am in love with that Spongebob GIF!!! So perfect!
ReplyDeleteLeg day....I love to hate it!!! I love what it does for my legs...but the burn! Oh the burn! You feel it for DAYYYYYSSSSSSS. Right now my hip flexers and gluts hurt from my leg day...that was 4 days ago.
Lol yes leg days can be brutal followed by walking like a duck for the days to follow ;-)
ReplyDeleteI have TERRIBLE knees. Squats are my enemy. So is jumping. It sucks because both of those things are great for working your legs out. I just have to find other non stressful ways to do it. I plan on doing a LOT of swimming this summer!
ReplyDeleteI love leg day!!! I know if I go hard enough I can't walk for 3-4 days after but I know it's working! Can't go wrong with the basics I actually did a HIIT workout this morning with Jumping jacks, Squats, High Knees and Lunges for 20 minutes.
ReplyDeleteyes to all of these! no need to get crazy with the leg workouts. keep it simple and it works best
ReplyDeleteYou go girl!!
ReplyDeleteI just started running and my legs feel better than with any other exercise I have ever done, including Zumba. I'm still trying to get better and more consistent with the strength training, but this seems easy (hahaha) enough to do. Thanks for posting it!
ReplyDeleteUgh I've got to get back into the running thing. I just seriously get SO bored!
ReplyDeleteI just saw your comment on my blog and I'm so glad you stopped in! Mostly because I'm glad I found your blog now hahah. I agree that leg exercises can be super simple, love this post!
ReplyDeleteHaha loving that "one does not walk after leg day." Today is leg day for me so tomorrow will be an interesting one!

I hurt my low back doing dead lifts so they make me nervous. Not to be taken lightly.
ReplyDeleteI want Sponge Bob legs :)
I agree that lunges are one of the best exercises for legs. I'm desperately trying to get back into running but oh how I hate it!

Ugh, how I hate leg exercises - well all exercise if we're being honest here! But beach season has pretty much arrived so I should probably try these out! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI love squats and dead lifts - 2 of my all time favorite moves!!
ReplyDeleteLunges are killer, but they feel so good after. I really wish I was a runner. I always try and get disheartened cause I just can't go far/long and give up before I see any improvement.
ReplyDeleteYay for squats!! Lower body workouts are definitely a killer but so needed. Squats are my fave tho.
ReplyDeleteLegs day is the best day!
ReplyDeleteI despise lunges. despise them. but they get the job done. so I do them. I do plie' & regular squats too. whichever I feel like on that particular legs day. And straight leg deadlifts. I really like those. Throw in hip abduction for that pesky inner thigh fat & there's my legs day! I just started running 3 weeks ago & can already tell a difference in my legs.
Hey, as a Personal Trainer I can tell you these are the best basic lower body exercises so don't worry about all the fluff out there. The only reason there are so many is b/c my clients would get bored if I just told them to squat for 45 min every day lol
ReplyDeleteBahahahaha! That sponge bob gif is great! I'm with you, my lower half is the toughest target area on my bod! But these three are def the go to workouts!
ReplyDeletei'm reading the fault is in our stars. but i haven't finished yet.
ReplyDeleteand GIFS are awesome.

Ok I HAVE to start using weights now. THanks for sharing this!
ReplyDeleteThanks as always for liking up girl! I love this!!
ReplyDeleteYes! Squats are the best! I love back squats, because they just make you feel super strong and powerful!
ReplyDeleteI do a lot of these same exercises and I split my workouts the same! Deadlifts used to kill my butt but now they don't as much any more. I think I must need to up the weight or something. Leg day was yesterday for me and my calves are feeling it today!
