Except, I don't really have a favourite arm workout. When I go to the gym, it is split into 3 different 'types' of workouts. Upper, Lower & Abs. I rarely just do cardio in the gym because I'm an outside kinda gal. But often after abs or lower body workouts I'll jump on the elliptical for 30 mins, otherwise I feel like I wasn't there long enough.
Enough rambles. So today instead of just showing an 'arm' workout, I'll show you what I do for my 'upper body' workout.

Also, I apologize, I am going to use all of my terms which may make zero sense. I will try to find photos of the actual moves so you don't think I'm crazy.
I start off with push ups - if I leave them till last, I physically cannot do them. Then I move over to the free weights area and hope that the area is miraculously empty.
I don't know what the technical term for it is, but with the next few exercises, I alternate sets. Is that what its called? Anyway. So I do 1 set of bicep curls, then 1 set of overhead press. Keep going until I have done 3 sets of each. Then I do bench press and bent over rows, then I do the lifty things and the tricep things. Finally, I move on to the lat pull down machine. Then I stretch and feel bad ass and leave. Boom. This is my longest workout so I don't normally elliptical after this unless I am feeling particularly awesome that day.
So to recap:

this is what i call a lifty thing, apparently its called an upright row. |

In a more simple form:
Please note, this is specifically what I do - you can change the reps, sets - whatever. My husband likes to do a set of 12, then 10, then 8 but going up in weights each time. I'm good with how I do it, you be good with how you do it!
Don't forget to stretch!

One day I would LOVE to be able to do one of these babies, but as it is, right now I can only hang helplessly.

And remember, exercise makes you happy.

Also, this absolutely should go without saying - I am not a professional (tricep thingys?) and you should always consult a doctor, personal trainer, someone smarter than me before you do anything, and you cannot blame me if something goes wrong or you hurt yourself. Feel free to blame me if you are the good happy sore the next day though :)
Love your terminology. That's similar to what I say. :) right now I'm on week 3 of the bikini series from the tone it up girls. Loving it!! Also, three times a week I do pull ups with my hubby. Now, I still cannot do one on my eon, but I'm so close!!
ReplyDeleteAwesome workout! I'm working my way up to chin ups too...I'm still in "hanging lifelessly mode" too! I shared my own arm workout on my blog today too. I love reading what other people do at the gym.

Tricep thingy?? hahahaha dying over here! It's like when I say I was on the "yes and no machine" ....you know that machine that abducts and adducts your inner thighs? ;-) Do you do full body push ups? I was never able to do those until very recently now I feel like a boss (while I do like all 5 of them)! Oh yeah....I can't do a pull up I wish! Like who can honestly? Very good visuals girl! xoxoxo
ReplyDeleteGREAT workout! thanks for linking up - I actually did some of those 'tricep thingys' this morning :)
ReplyDeleteHahaha I love the Legally Blonde gif!! Great post girl! I love seeing what other people do to work out! It's always fun mixing it up! I think tricep thingy is the technical term! ;) If not I don't care, I'm using it any way!

I have a very similar arm workout and include kettle bells in there as well just for good measure! I like to jump rope since it's cardio and arms lol!! BTW legally blonde is MY ALL TIME favorite movie...i can recite every single line and i'm not ashamed at all...might have to do a post dedicated to all things Elle Woods!
ReplyDelete"Lifty things" are great! You don't have to know what they're called or what muscles they work as long as you feel the burn and you're enjoying it. Great workout and you're pretty much awesome!
ReplyDeleteHahahaa... I love your terminology!
ReplyDeleteI too dangle helplessly if I even attempt to do a pull-up! haha
Great workout! I just started doing arm workouts-gotta tone these things up!
ReplyDeleteArms and abs are my fave, I love a lot of these same ones. Bicep curls are my fave. You had me cracking up haha.
ReplyDeleteAwesome workout! I hardly ever do arms. I have crazy chicken arms, so I should do it :). I can't do pull-ups either, but my gym has that awesome machine that lets you do assisted pull-ups, so you're only pulling part of your weight up.
ReplyDeleteI need some tricep thingys in my life, STAT!!! hahah love the post lady!
ReplyDeleteI love love love working arms! I've been doing more compound lifts now that I'm pregnant, and I'm a big fan of shoulder to overhead presses, chest presses on a bench and handstand pushups against the wall ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your favorites!
Hahaha lifty things! You're cracking me up! :) And yeah, pull ups are super hard! I used be able to do a few when I was rock climbing more but I doubt I could do one now. I have a pull up bar at home so I need to get back to those. Thanks for this! I may do your workout soon!
ReplyDeleteTriceps thingy. Lift thingy. You are sounding like me! Haha! I love a good arm work out though! I just got into weights and working arms, back, shoulders, chest, legs, etc instead of just doing cardio. I really enjoy it much more and I think in the long run I will have better results.
ReplyDeleteHaha! The lifty things for the upright rows! Love it! Looks like a good workout, very similar to my arm workout.
ReplyDeletestart with hanging helplessly and work from there. Hang for a while slowly let yourself down and then progress. Try and jump into the pull-up and get yourself up to the top, etc! keep working on pull-ups!!!!
ReplyDeleteHah your terminology is on point. I'd probably use the same terms to describe my routine when I used to go to the gym. Now I flirt with the idea on a monthly basis until I remind myself that it'd be a waste of money because I'd get bored after a month and decide I NEED to join a different yoga studio/rock gym/spin studio/whatever. I have exercise ADD.
ReplyDeleteOk loving this! Arm workouts are so much better than legs and you feel it instantly! and I love all the thingies!
ReplyDeleteLat pull down works my back like nothing else. That is single handily my favorite back work out. Overhead press sculpts some beautiful shoulders as well. You have your routine down pat girl, LOVE IT
ReplyDeleteHaha loving your technical terms! I love a good arm workout! Try doing your basic curls on an incline bench! It helps to isolate the bicep and gives you an awesome pump! ;)

Look at you Ms Jillian Michaels with your arm work out! Love it. I especially like you say "Tricep thingys" :) My kind of work out instructor :)
ReplyDeleteI need to use these - the jiggle on my arms is getting embarrassing.
I love your terminology! Thanks for linking up- and no worries you'll be able to do a pull up one day!
ReplyDeleteHaha you sound like someone I could work out with - don't take things too seriously :) Good ol' tricep and lifty thingys! I'm going to give your workout a try this week!
ReplyDeleteLOL! That last gif is funny shit :) Soooo... I'm guessing your talking about arm workouts today since your over there mowing down a damn blizzard! Lucky! :)
ReplyDeleteI need to get some upper body strength! I remember being in 6th or 7th grade and having to do our physical fitness test and I could only do 7 pushups in a minute and I was SO embarrassed-- the sad thing is, I think I can do even less than 7 today! Is it bad that my two favorite things from this were the Toy Story & Legally Blonde gifs? haha
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing those images and gif's. Cleared me in better way. Most helping was the more simple form you shared for upper body workout. Thank you so much.
ReplyDelete"Lifty things" are great! You don't have to know what they're called or what muscles they work as long as you feel the burn and you're enjoying it. Great workout and you're pretty much awesome!
