Wardrobe Essentials #5: Tops & Blouses

Catch up on dressesjeanspants and shorts & skirts if you wanna.

Let's talk tops. There's only like, two pairs of tops so this should be super simple. That was le sarcasme font, if you didn't catch that. There approximately 47 billion different types of tops. This should be fun.

You've seen the wardrobe essentials lists - you know, the one that always has the white button up blouse on it? Fabulous. I saw it too, and went out and bought said blouse. I never wore it, it has since gone to greener pastures (aka goodwill).

Everyone is different, obviously, and every person's style will differ even from someone most like her. Because there are so many tops, it's just impossible to cover every single base. So, as usual I'm going to cover my bases - the ones that most apply to me and my lifestyle. mmk.

1. Tees.

Ah, the comfy tee. The graphic tee. The fancy tee? Not sure about that one, but I love me some tees. I love that they can be super casual, with sweats or leggings, and then easily dressed up with some accessories and heels. Boom.

I personally think everyone should own 1 white tee and 1 grey tee. The others are for fun.

2. Tanks.

Tanks are fabulous. Worn on their own, underneath everything, layers - pop a cardi over them and they suddenly become a wee bit more fancy / appropriate. I personally have like 70 tanks, comfy and casual ones and then my fancier ones.

I like white tanks, black tanks, striped tanks, polka dot tanks.. all the tanks! I get most of my tanks from Forever 21 and Target. Sometimes ASOS has really cute ones on sale (see above).

3. Work / Fancy Blouses.

If you don't have job where you need to wear blouses like I do, maybe you like to wear something fancier than a tee out sometimes. To the movies or something. I personally prefer long sleeve blouses for work, 3/4 at most, rarely short sleeves. I am always cold and I also just think it's more appropriate for my office.

Because I generally stick to more plain and boring pants and skirts, I like fun blouses for work. I also wear a lot of tops to work that I would wear out for funsies, as well.

4. Fun Blouses / Tops.

Tops you can wear for out on the town and crazy stuff like that. Or like, with jeans on casual Friday.

We might have a completely different definition of fun tops.

5. Button Ups.

While I don't like the plain white button up, and I don't often wear normal button ups to work, I do like the gingham / plaid / chambray style button ups. I only own chambray, not quite on the other print bandwagon yet but I do think they are cute. Button ups are super versatile. The top below is probably the most boring looking top on the hanger, but I have worn it so many times I can't even count. It's great opened or buttoned up. Love it. Forever 21 FTW.

I am sure to be missing a top of some sort that is super essential to someone. But these are what work for me and what I find to be essential in my wardrobe. Is there something that I am missing that you couldn't live without?

I also feel incredibly selfish posting something today that is not related to what happened last year, but I could not do it justice. So I will just share this, and hope you think of it today.

  1. I love me some comfy tees and blouses. I adoooooooooooore all the fancy, expensive silk blouses all the high end stores carry, but yeah, my wallet doesn't. I've been able to find a few at cheaper prices that work just as well. FUN POST!

  6. All your looks are adorable! One of my favorite outfits is jeans, a white tee and a cute, bright colored blazer with a statement necklace. It's my go-to outfit of choice :)

  7. I love comfy tee's - I have one in every color! And so funny that you never wore your white button up blouse, I have one from the Gap and wear it literally every week!

  8. I love all of the above! Especially tanks with cardigans because I'm always cold at work so through the summer I can wear a tank with a cardigan and then remove the cardigan when I go outside! :) Love all the looks you posted! Too cute!
