Anzac Day

Friday is Anzac Day at home. However, considering the time difference, it's technically right now.

If you don't know what Anzac Day is and you would like to know - please read this as it can explain it better than I can.

So why am I posting about it if I'm not going to talk about the reason behind the day itself? Why, any excuse to talk about my home, of course.

Anzac Day, to me, is a day off work. It's a parade at Dawn, and red poppies everywhere.

It's a day that we remember our Diggers, ensuring their sacrifice will never be forgotten. It's a day that they teach those who weren't there about respect and pride, and brings out the patriot in us all. It's a day when Aussies come together as a nation to reflect and acknowledge that although war should not be glorified those who fought for our freedom deserve our deepest gratitude.

It's a day that we eat more than our normal share of ANZAC biscuits.

It's a day to celebrate, have a few drinks and play a silly game called Two Up.

It's a day that I miss my country, and I wish I was there to be a part of it all again, to be engulfed with the Aussie-ness. Every country has it's pros and cons, its goodies and it's baddies. ANZAC day brings out the good in everyone and makes me proud to call Australia my home, even more so than usual.

They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning
We will remember them.
Lest we forget.

  2. I only live two states over from the one that I grew up in and I feel homesick for our traditions sometimes so I can only imagine how you're feeling today! Whatever those Anzac biscuits are made of, they look delicious!
